Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway TD, who chairs the Oireachtas Committee on Communications, has written to Leo Varadkar to outline the need for laws to regulate social media.
Galway West Deputy Hildegarde Naughton says the time for apologies and remedial action from Facebook is long past - and it can't be trusted to self-regulate.
It follows a recent documentary which exposed how decisions were made on what's allowed appear on the social media platform.
It showed a Dublin based trainer telling his team that if content is censored too many people would lose interest and that "It's all about making money".
Facebook representatives appeared before the Oireachtas committee last evening, where they outlined changes being made in light of the expose.
However, Fine Gael Deputy Naughton says while regulation is needed at EU level - the Irish government needs to take immediate action.
