Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway TD is urging the Government to pay heed to a new report on the regeneration of towns and villages across the country.
The Northern and Western Regional Assembly has published the report, entitled "Regional Vacancy and Dereliction Analysis".
It outlines how almost 50 thousand residential and commercial properties are empty in the West, North-West and Border areas.
It also notes that more than 70 percent of towns and villages in the region have a residential vacancy rate above the national average.
In Galway City, there are more than 1 thousand vacant properties, of which almost 700 are commercial, while over 400 are residential.
Deputy Sean Canney says the Government must get serious about providing incentives to encourage people to purchase derelict properties.
