Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway West TD Noel Grealish has apologised unreservedly for his attendance at the controversial Oireachtas Golf Society event held in Clifden on Wednesday.
Deputy Grealish was among 80 other TDs, Senators and guests - including former Minister for Agriculture Dara Calleary and EU Commissioner Phil Hogan.
The gathering took place at the Station House Hotel in Clifden on Wednesday night, just 24 hours after new COVID-19 measures were introduced to stop the spread of the virus.
In a statement to Galway Bay fm news, Deputy Grealish, who is captain of the Golf Society, said he sat at a table with six people and exercised social distancing.
He said he was assured the event met new public health guidelines however, he now realises this was an error of judgement.
Deputy Grealish added he sincerely and unreservedly apologises. The Independent TD is not available for further comment.
The event honoured father of Tuam Cllr Donagh Killilea - former Fianna Fáil MEP Mark Killelea Jnr - who passed away in 2018.
It's understood the late Galway man's family also attended the event.
