Galway Bay FM Newsroom – A Galway TD has slammed the delay in establishing a new ambulance base in Connemara.
Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív say it's time for the National Ambulance Service to deliver a central base that can be used by the remaining ambulances in the region when one of the existing two are out on a call.
This comes as both Deputy Ó Cuív and the Connemara Ambulance Crisis Group say the NAS has been offered space on a site in the Maam Cross area which can be used for the base.
In response to a paliamentary question submitted by the Fianna Fail TD, however, the NAS said the owner of the site had indicated that they would not be in a position to assist.
The NAS added that it has given no commitment to allocate additional service development resources to the Connemara area.
Deputy Ó Cuív says this is incorrect and that the property owner has offered space at the rear of a site with its own entrance to the N59.
