Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway TD says planning exemptions for the installation of solar panels on schools and community buildings are "long overdue".

Galway West Deputy Eamon O' Cuiv raised the matter via parliamentary question - and was told the exemptions will be introduced over the coming weeks.
The response noted that an interim measure is currently being progressed to allow for planning exemptions in all areas nationwide except those in close proximity to airports and aerodromes.

Deputy O' Cuiv says the measure will contribute considerably to savings in overheads for schools and community centres.
He also argues it'll reduce our greenhouse gases and sets a particularly strong example of good practice for our younger generations.
