Galway Bay fm newsroom – A set of long-awaited reports are to be published shortly on the viability of extending the Western Rail Corridor from Athenry to Claremorris.
Galway East Deputy Ciaran Cannon says a study by Ernst and Young found there is no case to be made for such a service, whether for passengers or freight.
He argues a second report carried out by Jaspers also reached the same conclusion.
Shortly after Christmas, Transport Minister Eamon Ryan indicated he would like another far-reaching review to see if there is a case to be made for the line in a wider context.
Both the Ernst & Young and Jaspers reports are due to be published shortly.
Fine Gael Deputy Cannon said there simply isn't any demand for a service at this point - and it's time to focus on developing a Greenway.
