Galway TD says almost half of money owed for historical child abuse not paid

Almost half of the money due to the State over historical child abuse has yet to be paid, according to figures provided to a Galway T.D

18 religious orders have contributed 230 million euro in the form of cash, counselling and property transfers.

However the congregations committed to providing 480 million euro to help the State support victims over a decade ago.

5 of the 18 properties which were offered to the Government have still yet to be transferred.

Galway East Fianna Fail TD Anne Rabbitte - who obtained the figures - says the religious orders involved are dragging their heels.
