Galway Bay fm newsroom - Ahead of the new school term, a Galway TD is raising concerns that regulations for afterschool services could lead to closures.
The regulations dictate the ratio of child to childcare employee must be no larger than 12:1 - which is half the 25:1 ratio required in primary school classrooms.
The new regulations were introduced by the Department of Child Protection for all afterschool care facilities for children in the primary school cycle.
Fianna Fail Deputy Anne Rabbitte says these ratios are not viable and are putting too much pressure on the industry.
