Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway TD has urged the Taoiseach to ensure that the right for children of farm families to secure planning permission on family lands is "enshrined" in new rural housing guidelines.
The matter was raised in the Dáil by Galway East Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon, who acknowleged that the new guidelines are due to be published shortly.
Deputy Cannon cited the Programme for Government's commitment to balanced regional development, and the acknowledgement that all parts of the country must be allowed to thrive.
Addressing Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Deputy Cannon said planning policy needs to show a real understanding of the rights of farm children to live on family lands.
Speaking in response, Taoiseach Micheal Martin said a draft will be presented to Housing Minister Darragh O' Brien in the coming weeks.
