Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway TD is criticising the Department of Rural Affairs over what he claims is a failure to spend money allocated to them for the provision of basic rural infrastructure.
Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív says the department has only spent a third of the funds it has at its disposal for infrastructure services.
Deputy Ó Cuív says 47 million euro out of 139 million euro has been spent so far this year, with the remainder unlikely to be fully allocated before the end of 2019.
The Fianna Fail TD is calling on Minister Michael Ring to enact an adjusted spending programme and to focus spending on vital maintenance of local and country roads.
He says the money needs to be spent on projects that can be finished before the end of the year - for more on this story tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
