The Department of Social Protection's capital assessment process is failing people with disabilities according to a Galway West TD.
Fianna Fail Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív is calling on the Minister for Social Protection to make the process fairer for people with long-term disabilities.
He says recipients of means tested disability payments can suffer reduced payments in the cases where parents or carers put aside money for them to support the long-term provision of care.
Deputy Ó Cuív says those who receive over a certain amount of property or money in a will following the death of a parent or carer, will receive no disability allowance whatsoever.
The Fianna Fail TD says the process needs to be made fairer for those suffering from long term disabilities who are unable to work.
