Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway-Roscommon TD says direct supports are urgently required for suckler farmers nationwide.
Deputy Eugene Murphy says suckler farmers underpin Ireland's 2.5 billion euro beef exports - but only generate average incomes of 13 thousand euro or less.
He also argues that the suckler sector is pivotal to supporting rural economies, generating 4 euro of economic activity for every 1 euro invested.
Fianna Fail Deputy Murphy says new supports are needed to bolster low income farmers and recognise their contributions.
