Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway Senator Sean Kyne has retained his seat in Seanad Eireann.
The Fine Gael Senator secured 12 thousand votes following the 14th count, giving him a surplus of over 3 thousand votes.
In February, the outgoing Minister and Galway West TD was appointed to the Seanad by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to fill the vacancy left by the election of Frank Feighan to the Dáil for the Sligo-Leitrim consituency.
Senator Kyne now retains his seat in the Seanad on the cultural and educational panel.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news after reaching the quota Senator Kyne, as the first person elected to the panel, moved to thank those who supported him.
The Former government chief whip is likely be joined by his Fine Gael colleague John McGahon on the Cultural and Educational panel.
There are five seats for up grabs on this panel.
Loughrea area Fine Gael councillor Michael Moegie Maher has been eliminated, as has Loughrea area Fianna Fail councillor Shane Curley.
