Galway schools begin distribution of leaving cert results

Schools around the city and county have begun the distribution of leaving cert results.

1,589 girls and 1,531 boys are collecting their results at their schools or online.

The State Examinations Commission says this year's results are broadly in line with previous years.

However the number of candidates who failed ordinary level maths rose from almost 8 per cent last year, to just under 11 per cent this year.

There was a marginal improvement in the number of students who passed higher level maths.

Merlin College in Doughiska had its first cohort of leaving cert students this year.
