A Galway-Roscommon TD is warning that the possible downgrading of the Civil Defence would be another 'death blow' to rural Ireland.
Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says new measures have been introduced which mean the voluntary organisation may have to operate a reduced service.
He says the strict guidelines could mean the Civil Defence would no longer be able to fulfill vital roles at community events such as EMTs or paramedics.
