Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway-Roscommon TD is criticizing delays in issuing payments to people under the Turf Cutting Cessation Scheme.
The scheme was introduced in 2010 to compensate land owners and turbary right holders affected by new legislation restricting cutting.
Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says payments were traditionally issued in May or June - but a considerable number of people are now still awaiting payment.
He's raising concerns that the overspend on the controversial National Children's Hospital is impacting the ability of other departments to issue payments.
Independent Deputy Fitzmaurice says there appears to have been a complete breakdown in the operation of the scheme.
