Galway Bay fm newsroom - Over 1,000 incidents of domestic abuse have been reported to Gardaí in Galway so far this year.
Nationally Gardaí have dealt with an average of nearly 100 domestic abuse incidents every day this year - with the highest levels reported in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Louth.
New figures show 24,686 domestic abuse incidents were reported to the Gardaí between the start of this year and September 9th.
These include a variety of offences, such as violence and breach of a barring order.
Over a third of the incidents were in the Dublin region, involving just under 9,000 cases.
2,021 were in Cork, with 1,152 in Louth and 1,074 in Galway.
Minister of State for Justice, Hildegarde Naughton, says tackling domestic abuse, and providing supports for victims, is a key priority for the government.
