Galway Bay fm newsroom - Commuters and visitors in Galway are left stranded this morning (24/3) as Bus Eireann staff engage in an all-out strike.
They're refusing to work under the threat of pay cuts which bosses claim they have no option but to enforce.
While school bus services will run, all other Bus Eireann services have been cancelled due to the strike action.
It's understood private bus services are heavily booked as a result
Rail services have also been affected as rail workers won't cross the picket lines manned by about 35 Bus Eireann drivers at Ceannt station in the city.
The 5.30a.m Galway to Dublin service did not run, however the 7.40a.m Galway-Heuston service did operate.
The 11.25a.m, 5.30p.m and 6.30p.m Dublin to Galway services have all been cancelled.
However the 11.05 and 13.25 trains from Heuston to Galway will go ahead.
Irish Rail says the Heuston to Galway - match special - train at 11.25 tonight cannot be guaranteed.
There will be no service running between Galway and Limerick.
A list of cancelled services is online at www.irishrail.ie
Barry Kenny from Irish Rail says they thought services wouldn't be affected, but that the picket lines have been moved to locations that block access for train drivers.
Some of the Bus Eireann workers at Ceannt Station in the city have told Galway Bay fm news that they don't want to be on strike but have no choice.
