Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Galway public has delivered over 50 thousand Covid-19 vaccines to the world's poorest countrys through a fundraising initiative.
That's according to UNICEF Ireland, who says there's been a strong response to it's "Get a Vaccine, Give a Vaccine" campaign.
Just week's after its official launch, the campaign has raised over €2.5m nationwide - a figure UNICEF says is a "phenomenal" response.
Overall, the Irish public has donated 1 million Covid-19 vaccines to countries in need - with 50 thousand doses coming from the Galway public.
UNICEF says it has developed the largest vaccination cold chain in the world for childhood immunisation and is now using this to deliver Covid-19 vaccines.
It aims to deliver 2 billion vaccines this year to the world's most vulnerable families, health workers and high-risk people.
