Galway one of worst hit counties by primary-teacher shortages

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway is one of the five counties worst hit by primary school teacher shortages.

According to the Irish Independent, 90 percent of schools in Galway said they had difficulties getting teachers.

Galway, Dublin, Cork, Kildare and Wicklow are the counties worst hit by a shortage of primary school teachers.

90 percent of Galway schools surveyed said it resulted in them moving a special education teacher from core duties to cover an absence.

The IPPN survey found that shortages have left up to 900 primary schools nationwide without their full quota of teachers.
