Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway Minister is calling on the ESB to assess the impact the Derrybrien windfarm is having on flooding in South Galway.
Minister of State and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon says the ESB is obliged to carry out a retrospective environmental impact assessment following a ruling by EU court of Justice.
This week, the European Court ruled EU law was infringed upon in the construction of the wind farm in 2003.
In October 2003, there was a major landslide at Derrybrien, which polluted local waterways and killed around 50 thousand fish.
The state has been fined 5 million euro by the EU court and will have to pay 15 thousand euro a day until an environmental impact assessment is completed.
Minister Cannon says the water run-off system at the site is contributing to flooding in parts of south Galway - to hear more, tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
