Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway Minister is calling on the Government to review how it communicates with communities in areas earmarked for direct provision centres.
Galway East Junior Minister Sean Canney says such centres are being first presented to locals as 'done deals' with very little information available.
He says this 'closed shop' approach is leading to the spread of misinformation, misunderstandings and inaccurate theories.
It follows controversial protests over centres earmarked for Oughterard, Achill, and Ballinamore in Co. Leitrim.
Independent Minister Canney says full and open consultation should be carried out with communities in advance of decisions being made.
