Galway Minister calls for urgent investigation into breast cancer survival rates in west

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A Galway East TD is calling for an urgent investigation into breast cancer survival rates in the West.

It comes following the publication of a National Healthcare Quality Report which shows an 80 per cent survival rate for breast cancer patients in the west - which is the lowest in the country.

Last year it was revealed that a quarter of cancer patients who attend UHG and Portiuncla Hospital have to wait over 2 weeks for IV treatment.

Minister of State Sean Canney says healthcare staff in the west are top quality however they face serious resource issues.
