Galway local authorities paid €6m in compensation for trips and falls since 2017

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway local authorities have paid out more than €6 million in compensation for trips and falls since 2017.

There have been 274 claims made for trips and falls across the city and county from 2017 to June 2022.

[Galway city council have paid out €3.5m for 178 claims of trips and falls, while the county council has paid €2.5m for 96 such claims.

The Irish Independent reports councils nationwide have paid out nearly 150 million euro in the last five and a half years relating to trips and falls on footpaths.

Dublin, Louth, Limerick and Longford are among the counties with the highest rates of public injury claims against local authorities.

Dublin's local authorities have paid out over 66 million between them.

While Cork County and City councils didn't provide data to the newspaper and Laois and Donegal had the lowest number of claims
