Gawlay Lifeboat and emergency services attended the scene just before two o'clock and a person was rescued from the water at Wolftone Bridge by Galway Fire Brigade and taken to UHG.

Meanwhile late on Saturday afternoon, four people were rescued off Ballyloughane beach in Renmore after they became trapped between Hare island and the beach due to the rising tide.

A member of the public contacted emergency services and the Galway Lifeboat was dispatched to the scene within 7 minutes.

The two men and two women in their 20s were in water up to their waists and were in danger of straying off the causeway.
