Galway IFA elects first female chairperson

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Galway branch of the Irish Farmers Association has elected its first ever female chairperson.

Anne Mitchell from Menlough was elected at the branch's AGM in Athenry last night, replacing former chairperson Pat Murphy.

She beat off competition from Peter Gohery from Eyrecourt and Stephen Canavan from Corofin for the position.

Anne was Director of Elections for Joe Healy during his successful national presidential campaign in 2016.

Martin Murphy from Turloughmore was elected as the representative for the National Council and David Harney from Ahascragh was elected as the sheep representative.
