Galway Bay fm newsroom - It's been revealed that Households and businesses in Galway and Roscommon are the most likely in the country to be chosen for a tax audit.
The district not only has the highest share of tax audits, but also the highest number of risk assessments according to new figures from Revenue.
Figures from Revenue reveal that whether you're running a business or just living in Galway, you're the most likely in the country to face a tax audit.
Statistics for 2015 show there were 200 tax audits per 100 thousand people in Galway-Roscommon in that year.
That's above Waterford at 189, Mayo at 182, Dublin at 161 and Louth at 157.
What's particularly notable is that as well as claiming the highest share of tax audits, Galway-Roscommon also has the highest number of risk assessments carried out.
The figure for Galway-Roscommon is 3, 150 assessments per 100 thousand population - well above the figure for Dublin at 2, 735, Louth at 2, 719, and Cavan/Monaghan at 2, 575.
According to the Sunday Business Post, the figures were supplied in response to a parliamentary question by Fianna Fail's public expenditure spokesperson, Dara Calleary.
Revenue insists it operates on risk rather than geography - and its systems works on a national basis to identify people who do not file take returns, under declare income or over claim deductions and credit.
