Galway hooker restoration project to be launched in city this afternoon

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Galway Hooker 2020 team is to launch its latest restoration project this afternoon (18/8)

The team is led by over 100 volunteers including fishermen, sailors and boat-builders.

The group has already spent five months restoring a 137 year old vessel called 'Lovely Anne'.

The latest project called 'Loveen,' is being supported by funding from the Western Fisheries Local Action Group - and will provide a dedicated hooker for the Port of Galway Sea Scouts.

The group hopes to complete the project in time for the official opening of Galway 2020.

The launch will coincide with this year's blessing of the bay at Claddagh Quay this afternoon at 3.30pm.
