Galway Bay fm newsroom - Community groups across Galway are being urged to apply for funding under a new Government CCTV scheme to tackle rural crime.
Under the scheme, eligible groups can apply for grant aid of up to 60% of the total capital cost of CCTV systems up to 40 thousand euro.
It's hoped the scheme will help to reduce crime in towns and villages across Galway as well as deter public disorder and anti-social activity.
The scheme will run for 3 years with a national fund of one million euro to be made available each year.
Galway East Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon says while rural crime figures are down, CCTV will be welcome in many communities.
