Galway Gardaí quizzed on apparent rise in incidents of driving in wrong direction on motorway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway Gardaí have been questioned on an apparent rise in the number of incidents of motorists driving in the wrong direction on motorways.

Connemara area councillor Dáithí O Cualáin told a meeting of the Joint Policing Committee that there are many reports gaining traction on social media of motorists travelling the wrong way down motorways in Galway.

He said it appears to be a particular problem at the Kiltullagh exit in Loughrea.

Garda Superintendent Karen Maloney, who is based in Loughrea, told the meeting there does seem to be an increase in such incidents whether due to a logistical issue or driver error.
