Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Chief Superintendent of Galway Garda Division says he has not received any statistics yet regarding possible changes to the number of breath tests carried out in the city and county.
At a meeting of the City Joint Policing Committee. Chief Superintendent Tom Curley presented the latest garda crime figures for the city districts.
They show that just over 7 thousand breath tests were performed in the city last year, compared to almost 8 thousand the previous year.
Some members of the City JPC questioned whether this figure is correct or whether the latest national scandal regarding breath tests would affect it.
Councillor Padraig Conneely commented that the term 'fake news' comes to mind when he looks at the breath test figure.
Chief Superintendent Curley says he has not received any further information as yet regarding breath tests in Galway.
Meanwhile, the cabinet's expected to discuss the Garda breath test controversy when it meets this morning.
Tanaiste and Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald will update her colleagues, as the force's Commissioner insists she'll stay on in her position.
