Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway East TD Anne Rabbitte says she was forced to leave her home for a week after getting threatening phone calls in the middle of the night.
It's one of a number of instances of abuse recorded against female politicians, including death and rape threats.
NUI Galway is hosting a seminar today on the representation of female journalists and politicians in the media.
The event features a panel discussion about abuse targetted at female members of the Oireachtas.
It comes as the National Women's Council has published a report which highlights such abuse as one of the many issues providing a barrier to women entering politics.
Others include poor pay, no maternity leave and poor support from some political parties.
