Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Galway Clinic is seeking an extension of time to build a new five-storey accommodation wing.
The project at the Doughiska campus had been granted approval by city planners in 2012 but development works have not yet commenced.
The new wing would provide in-patient accommodation for 79 people.
It would comprise three wards on first, second and third floor levels, each with 21 single bedrooms.
There would also be a new ICU at ground floor level to include 16 single bedrooms.
The new wing also includes a plan for three endoscopy rooms.
Planning permission had initally been granted for the project in August 2012 but expires later this year (Oct).
In the application to city planners, it's estimated development works will commence in December 2019, with a completion timeline of December 2021.
The applicant states that it has not been possible to undertake construction within the timeframe due to economic and commercial considerations.
