Seventeen children from across Galway City and County were sworn in as Honorary Members of An Garda Síochána at a Little Blue Heroes Graduation Ceremony on Friday at the Garda North Western Regional Headquarters in Galway City.
Each Little Blue Hero was presented with a certificate and medal by Assistant Commissioner Cliona Richardson. They were treated to a station tour where they met members of the Armed Support Unit, Mounted Unit, Public Order Unit, Roads Policing Unit and Dog Unit.
The heroes and their families were also treated to a performance from The Garda Band
The Little Blue Heroes Foundation's vision is to support families of children with serious illnesses in Ireland while empowering the lives of children through positive community engagement.
Garda Damien Carey, who has worked tirelessly with fundraising for the charity, told Galway Bay FM News that it was great to see everyone enjoying themselves.
Garda Brian O'Donnell is a trustee of Little Blue Heroes. He explained that the charity will do all they can to help children and their families and events like fundraisers go a long way to providing that support.
The event was also attended by Mayor of Galway City Peter Keane to said that is was an honour as mayor to be at the event and also to acknowledge the commitment of An Garda Siochana to the charity.
Assistant Commissioner of An Garda Siochana Cliona Richardson performed the Graduation Ceremony and told Galway Bay FM News that the event and similar events are also important to the Gardai in respect to their work in the Community.
