Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway City Centre still has the highest rate of Covid-19 nationwide - at over five times the national average.
One in every 77 people in the local electoral area tested positive in the space of two weeks.
The 14-day incidence rate for the city centre was 1,292 per 100 thousand people on Monday - over five times the national average of 240.
That compares to a figure of 951 per 100 thousand the week previous - which at the time, was also the highest in the country.
Green Party city councillor Martina O'Connor says it's partly down to cases at NUI Galway, and is urging students to be cautious.
