Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway has bucked the national trend in being ranked as 'clean' in the latest litter survey which finds other cities have slipped to levels ‘not seen in ten years’.
The first post-lockdown survey by Irish Business Against Litter shows Galway city centre improving to 'clean' status in 19th position in the ranking of 40 areas nationwide.
Ballybane, however, is now deemed ‘littered’ in 35th spot, down from 26th last year.
The An Taisce report listed top-ranking sites to include the NUIG campus, the cathedral car park, Canal Walk from Nun’s Island to Millennium Park, IDA Galway Business Park and St. Nicholas Church environs.
It found however that Eyre Square was littered.
A disappointing drop in cleanliness was noted in Ballybane, with only three top ranking sites and two litter blackspots.
Portlaoise was named the cleanest town in the country.
