Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway has one of the highest number of new internet domain registrations recorded nationwide over the past 12 months.
However, figures from the IE Domain Registry - or IEDR - show that Ireland continues to lag behind almost all European countries.
The largest increases in registrations during 2017 were in counties with large urban centres such as Galway, Cork and Dublin.
Despite the high number of registrations in Galway, the figure for Connacht remains low with 18 thousand registrations across the region to date - just 8 percent of the national total.
That compares to 148 thousand domains registered to addresses in Leinster, 40 thousand domains registered in Munster and 10 thousand in Ulster.
CEO of IEDR, David Curtin, says the growth in new websites is down to a number of factors.
