Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway 2020 is to press ahead with its plan to launch its festival programme at a special event in Eyre Square this month.
The event will be held in Eyre Square on Wednesday week with a limited audience capacity, and will mark the beginning of Galway's European Capital of Culture journey.
An audience of up to 8,000 people was initially expected to attend the event, however this has been scaled back after a delay in submitting the event licence application.
An event permit has since been granted which will allow the launch to proceed with a more limited audience capacity.
Chair of Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture, Arthur Lappin will be joined by Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, to officially mark the beginning of the European Capital of Culture journey.
