Galway Bay fm newsroom - Funding for a new emergency department at UHG is to be included in the HSE mid term review due to be published in June or July this year.
The guarantee was provided by the Health Minister Simon Harris at a meeting with a five-person delegation from the Regional Health Forum West last evening.
Funding has so far only been sanctioned for the design and it's hoped the plans will be complete by year end.
It's estimated the project could cost anything from 65 to 120 million euro depending on the plan.
It's understood the 120 million euro plan would involve a seven-storey block with two storeys assigned to A&E.
Fine Gael city councillor Padraig Conneely was part of the delegation to meet the Minister at Leinster House last evening.
He said while an exact figure was not confirmed, Simon Harris did provide a guarantee that funding for the emergency department would be included in the HSE mid term review.
