Galway Bay fm newsroom - Funding has been secured to provide 13 new bus shelters in the city next year.
Earlier this year, Galway City Council invited submissions from councillors to nominate suitable locations for additional bus shelters.
The initiative also involved consultation with operators such as Bus Eireann and City Direct.
Proposals were then surveyed and assessed against a number of criteria including passenger numbers, available space and the requirement for additional civil works.
Following the assessment 13 locations were approved by the NTA for funding under phase 1.
Councillor Donal Lyons says the move will support the push to encourage more people to use public transport.
