Galway Bay fm newsroom - Extra funding of 450-thousand euro has been announced to help prevent and treat HIV in Galway, Limerick, Cork and Dublin.
The scheme - called HIV Fast Track Cities - is part of a new global campaign in 300 cities.
It comes after 2018 was confirmed as the worst year on record for the detection of new cases with 513 people diagnosed with HIV.
Minister of State for Health Promotion, Catherine Byrne, says the scheme is about prevention and also reaching out to those who have the virus.
