Galway Bay fm newsroom - Funding has been confirmed for a planned new multi-million euro pedestrian walkway at Wolfe Tone Bridge in the city.
The project on the south side of the bridge would mirror the larger walkway already in place on the opposite side.
A planning application was submitted by Galway City Council last week and is open for observations until June 9th.
Galway West TD and Junior Minister Hildegarde Naughton has confirmed the National Transport Authority is committed to fully funding the proposed walkway, pending approval.
There would also be a new signalised rainbow pride crossing on the eastern approach to the bridge, which is located near Spanish Arch.
Fine Gael Minister Naughton says it's a hugely important measure in improving active travel in Galway City.
