Frustration for shoppers over paid parking system in Tuam

There has been significant confusion over paid parking in Tuam resulting in a multitude of tickets being issued to local shoppers.

'30 minute setdown' signs on Shop Street are being interpreted by some people as meaning the first 30 minutes are free, and so they are frustrated when they get tickets

This week's Tuam Municipal District Meeting heard wardens described as ticket happy with very little empathy

The Executive refused the claims, asking for proof of people being unfairly ticketed but agreed that an awareness campaign on confusing signage should be explored.

Councillor Pete Roche was joined by Cllr Andrew Reddington on a visit to businesses in the town to explore the problem and were told it's discouraging people from shopping local.

Cllr Roche is one of many councillors appealing for a sensible approach including a grace period
