A free public lecture will take place in the city this evening to explore the collapse of the historical Tuam Bank.
In June 1814, Lord ffrench's Bank of Tuam and Dublin was unable to meet its obligations to pay the demands of people making a run on the bank.
It closed its doors, locking people trying to withdraw money inside - and this caused huge alarm and prompted a wider run on private banks.
The bank was eventually declared bankrupt the following year.
