The founder of the Tuam Afterdark comedy events says new Covid-19 restrictions for the live events sector which come into force from today are hard to understand.

Nightclubs must close, while pubs and restaurants are allowed to seat a maximum of six people per table, with table service only.

Organised indoor events are now limited to 50 percent capacity.

Tuam Afterdark was due to stage a night of comedy headlined by David McSavage at the town's Mall theatre this Friday.

Due to the new restrictions on capacity, the comedian will now perform two shows on Friday evening in Tuam so that all those who had intended to attend the event will be accommodated.

Founder of Tuam Afterdark Katie Harrington says the new limits on capacity are having a huge effect on the entertainment industry in Galway:

95.8 MHz Galway City
95.8 MHz Clifden & West Connemara
97.4 MHz South Connemara & Aran Islands
96.8 MHz County Galway
97.4 MHz East Galway
97.2 MHz Gort Area
