Galway Bay fm newsroom - The former Corrib Great Southern Hotel on the Dublin Road in the city is set to be demolished next month.
It's one of three sites in the city earmarked as part of a drive by the city council to reduce dereliction across Galway.
The local authority says it has recently agreed a demolition plan with the owners of the former Corrib Great Southern and works are expected to get underway in early December.
It's expected the project will take around four months to complete.
Galway City Council says at present, there are no further agreed plans beyond the demolition and clearance of the site.
The local authority has also issued a Section 11 demolition notice for the former Oasis site in Salthill and is awaiting receipt of documentation before any demolition can commence.
At the former Connacht laundry site at St. Helen’s Street, demolition works are expected to be substantially complete by next month.
Galway West TD Mairéad Farrell says it's high time the former Corrib Great Southern Hotel is demolished and hopes it is the beginning of a new chapter for the site.
