It'll see the construction of 4.3km of new carriageway from the townland of Drimcong, north-west of the village, to the townland of Clydagh, south-east of the village.

The aim is to remove hundreds of trucks and heavy goods vehicles that pass through Moycullen each day.

It's expected the works will take around 2 years to complete.

The first sod will be turned on Friday by Galway West TD and Junior Minister Hildegarde Naughton, at a site north-east of the village.

Speeches will also be delivered by Minister Naughton and a range of guests, including the CEOs of Galway County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland, as well as County Cathaoirleach, Councillor Peter Keaveney.
