Fine Gael's Siobhan McHugh to be co-opted to vacant seat on County Council

Fine Gael's Siobhan McHugh is to be co-opted to Pete Roche's vacant seat on Galway County Council next Monday.

It's after Pete Roche won a Dáil seat for the Galway East constituency in the recent General Election.

Siobhan McHugh narrowly beat Pete's niece Olivia Rooney at a Fine Gael convention for the Tuam Local Electoral Area last evening at the Ard Rí Hotel in Tuam.

The third candidate Kamir Ahmad dropped out of the race, and after Siobhan and Olivia tied with first preference votes, Siobhan won out on second preferences.
