Galway Bay fm newsroom - It looks likely that a member of the Fine Gael party - Jimmy McClearn will become the new Cathaoirleach of the county council for the next year.
It's understood a pact has been formed involving Fine Gael's 11 county councillors, 9 Independents and one Green Party member.
This pact also will have the extra support of an additional Independent- Pat Hynes and Sinn Féin's Dermot Connolly for certain votes such as the Budget.
Independent Declan Geraghty is not part of the pact.
Meanwhile, an Independent councillor is expected to take the role of Mayor in the city.
It's understood Mike Cubbard will be nominated for the role at the first meeting of the new city council at City Hall, College Road this afternoon at 4.
A rainbow coalition pact has been finalised which involves 6 Independents, 2 Green Party councillors, 1 Social Democrats representative and Niall McNelis of Labour.
