Galway Bay fm newsroom - Farmers have gathered in protest at Liffey Meats in Ballinasloe this morning in a call for fairer pricing.
The demonstration is part of a nationwide campaign being led by the Beef Plan Movement who is urging farmers to refuse to trade today in co-ops, marts, factories and supermarkets.
The group is calling for fairer pricing with beef pricing now at a low of 3.50 euro per kg since the decline took hold last October.
Kevin O'Brien is Chairperson of the Galway Beef Plan Movement - he says farmers cannot sustain these prices any longer.
He's calling on Meat Industry Ireland to engage in mediation and enter into negotiation with the retailers - for more on this story tune in to Galway Bay fm news on the hour...
